Everything comes together in this ‘Object’. Earth, fire, air, death, life, flight,home. Wilfred Kalf reads the working of wood and Bibi Smit knows the flowing character of glass. Magic is created when fire brings the two materials together. A discovery. The skin of the burnt wood becomes the skin of the glass. Crafts united. Wilfred and Bibi find each other in terms of design in the split maple, the wood and it seeds. Symbols for finding a new way and new life. The source of inspiration, which fueled the fire of creation, is a painting from the Hoogsteder collection depicting the Winter Queen Elizabeth Stuart in exile with her husband Frederik V.
